Hans van Maanen
Science writer, journalist Volkskrant; Winner of the 2007 Van Walree price for medical science journalism (KNAW) and of the NWO Eureka 2007 price for 'The best oeuvre in the field of science communication’
 

Hans van Maanen (1950) has been a science journalist since he finished his sociology studies in 1979. He has worked for the newspapers Haarlems Dagblad, Het Parool and, after becoming a freelance writer in 2003,
De Volkskrant
. He also contributes regularly to popular science magazines like Quest, AMC Magazine and Natuurwetenschap & Techniek.


Van Maanen wrote some twenty books, mainly about science, mathematics, games, and popular misconceptions, and teaches at several Dutch universities. In 2007, he was awarded both the Van Walree price for medical science journalism (KNAW) and of the NWO Eureka 2007 for lifetime achievement in science communication.
