Life sciences researchers face increasing problems
dealing with the ongoing data flood that comes from
genomics experiments. The associated complexity of data
handling, pre-processing, analysis, and interpretation
often is paralyzing. Fortunately help is on its way!
Many years of informatics research into high-performance
grid computing, distributed collaboration, automated
workflows, Virtual Laboratories, and so on, now form the
basis of an e-BioScience approach that could help
control the complexity of genomics research. But
remember: it is still a multidisciplinary effort.
Together, we ultimately should be able to come up with
functional ways for things as: experiment design,
biological-data integration, and knowledge
representation, so we can survive the omics
revolution.
