Helen Roche
Professor of Nutrigenomics, UCD School of Public Health; UCD Conway Institute of Molecular Medicine, University College Dublin, Ireland

Dr Roche is a Wellcome Trust New Blood Fellow & Senior Lecturer (Molecular Nutrition) in TCD. She established the Nutrigenomics Research Group at the Institute of Molecular Medicine (TCD) in 2000. Dr Roche is joint co-ordinator of LIPGENE an EU Framework 6 Integrated Project worth €12.5m to investigate the interaction between dietary fat intake, genetic background and the metabolic syndrome. She also was a co-founder of the European Nutrigenomics Organisation. Current research projects focus on nutrient regulation of gene expression, specifically the effects of dietary fatty acid on the interactions between insulin sensitivity and inflammation, within the context of cardiovascular disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus and CVD.

Dr Roche has/had projects funded by The Wellcome Trust, the European Union Sixth Framework Programme, The Department of Food, Agriculture and Rural Development, Enterprise Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland. Dr Roche has at least 30 publications cited in Medline. Recent work published in several top nutrition-related journals (Journal of Immunology, FASEB J, Diabetes, Atherosclerosis, Am J Clin Nutr; Br J Nutr, etc.), presented novel findings with respect to nutrient regulation of gene expression, proteomics in cell culture models, animal studies and human dietary intervention studies. She regularly presents research international nutrition conferences and referees papers for the top nutrition related journals. Dr Roche was also editor of the Nutrition Society Textbook series for undergraduate and post-graduate nutrition education.
