Ruth Winden has been a professional in the careers field
for 13 years.
After studying Social Sciences and
English at the
University of Cologne and the University
of Cambridge,
she settled in the UK and eventually
worked for the
Careers Research and Advisory
Centre
in Cambridge. In
1999 she set up her own
career consultancy, contributing
to the professional and careers education of PhDs and
young researchers in
the UK and abroad.
She is a regular tutor on the UK Grad School Programme
and the Effective Researcher Programme at Edinburgh
University, and designs and facilitates career
development sessions for postgraduates at the University
of Durham and the University of Newcastle.
In addition to workshops, Ruth holds one-to-one career
consultations for staff at the University of Newcastle,
and currently also for members of the Royal Society of
Chemistry. In addition to working on behalf of a range
of organisations, Ruth has a private career management
practice for international professionals, mainly in the
science and engineering field.
In the Netherlands, Ruth is part of NWO’s Talent Day and
Masterclass Programme, where her role is to facilitate
interactive one-day programmes on Career Planning and
Marketing Yourself.
Ruth is passionate about networking and is part of a
number of regional networks such as Women into the
Networks, The Institute of Directors, and the Chartered
Institute of Professional Development. She stays up to
date with the fast-changing world of work through her
membership of the Association of Career Professionals
International, The Career Management Alliance and the
American Career Planning and Adult Development Network.
